Welcome to the NUI Galway German Society webpage. The aims of this society is to encourage an intercultural relationship between members of the society and Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Membership is open to all staff and students of NUI Galway, and as always new members are more than welcome. We have weekly screenings of German language films(Filmabend) followed by drinks(Barabend!), where members have an opportunity to socialise, make friends and of course practice some German outside the classroom. Members can take advantage of the Sprachpartner scheme run by the society, where we try to pair off a German speaking Erasmus student with a Irish student studying German, in order to improve language skills through informal conversations and weekly meetings.

Other events include the "Bootfahrt", which is a cruise on the Corrib Princess on the 6th of October, our "Oktoberfest" to be held in De Burgos Bar and various other parties and events which you can read about by clicking on the events link above. Members who are subscribed to our mailing list will also receive regular emails to keep up-to-date on what's happening in the society. The events for this Semester will kick off with the Bootfahrt(sometimes mistakenly translated as the Boozecruise;)), and once we are up and running there will be regular posts of all the pictures and videos we will be taking. Members are also encourage to send their own pics for inclusion in the website!
